Again we report in the fall issue on the annual meeting, which was held in August in New Orleans. Probably because of conflicts with other meetings, ours suffered from a lower attendance than usual, but was otherwise very successful, and those of us who were present found the distinctive atmosphere of this fine old city with its French overtones a unique experience among the meetings which our Society has held. Past President Klaus Fischer and his capable band of supporters deserve highest cornmendations for their efforts. In this issue you will find the usual minutes of the Executive Committee and business meetings, and a two-page spread of photos (not available electronically) contributed by Klaus and by our longtime contributor of photographic records, former President Connie Nozzolillo.
Please note the announcement on this page of student support for the 1997 meeting, which has been increased as a result of recent decisions.
On page 2 you will find a research report from Cecilia McIntosh of East Tennessee State University who, in contrast to previous contributors of these reports, is at an early stage of her research career. There is much phytochemical research of value and interest in progress in North America's smaller institutions, and much by younger researchers in institutions of all sizes. We strongly encourage others in similar positions to submit summaries of their current research for inclusion in future Issues. Accounts of studies out of the mainstream of phytochemical investigation are especially welcome. We are concluding in this issue a list of members' E-mail addresses begun in Vol. 35, No. 3 (not yet available electronically).
